TIPS

With
so many magicians and entertainers who want to perform at your event it
can feel almost impossible to work out which would be the best choice.
To help you decide here are a few things worth thinking about:
First
of all you will probably make your initial choice of magician from the
photos on their web site, if there are videos as well then this is also
a great help as the magician can be seen performing. Take time to view
the videos and photos and make sure you are seeing a true performance
and genuine reactions.
References
and experience?
Look
closely over references and make sure they are genuine, if you want
further references then maybe contact a venue or another wedding
supplier (e.g. photographer) that has worked with that artiste.
The
ability to astonish should come as standard, but make sure the
references show that the magician you hire also has the personality to
interact with your guests. Look for someone who is more than just
astonishing - hire a magician who is entertaining and, moreover,
enjoyable to be around.
A good magician should appreciate that he is just part of your day and
that their job is to help keep things moving and help create a warm
atmosphere, without trying to make themselves the main attraction on
your big day.
You may also want to consider whether the magician is a full time
performer. Professional entertainers are most likely to be members of
Equity, the performers union for professionals. Being a professional
entertainer is rarely a requirement for membership of a Magical Society.
While there are a number of very good part-timers in the UK who
shouldn't be overlooked, the fact that a magician is a full-time
performer will generally act as a good indicator of experience and
ability.
Personality
and Appearance?
What
type of entertainment do you want to see? Some magicians may spend a lot
of their time performing mind magic or card magic. The performance is
only as good as what the audience wants to be part of. Remember, some
people may not enjoy mind reading or “spiritual” type magic and
often people want to be entertained without feeling they have been
tricked or made fun out of.
Look
to hire an entertainer experienced in your sort of event. For example an
entertainer who works predominately at children parties may fail to
appeal to the older members of the audience despite being able to
perform spectacular magic.
Make
sure your magician’s appearance is suitable for your event. You want
to make sure that he will be smartly dressed and will blend in well with
your guests. Images in a brochure or website will usually give you a
good idea of what to expect.
Finally...
Telephone
the magician with your enquiry. Talking to the entertainer about your
requirements will help you to gauge their personality and experience
that they have.
If
you have already contacted a dozen magicians and are looking for the
cheapest then keep in mind this... As with all products at the end of
the day you get what you pay for.
